What to ExpectAs a member of the Product Safety Engineering group, you will be at the forefront of ensuring the safety of Tesla's products across Vehicles, Energy, and Robotics. Our team is responsible for understanding extreme real-world scenarios to inform the design of our products, with the goal of leading the industry in handling these conditions.We're seeking an experienced Engineer to join our team, where you'll perform investigations into novel technical issues with a variety of products, working with cross-functional teams to quickly understand root causes of failures, inform mitigation strategies, and feedback understandings into new designs.What You'll Do

  • Investigate the root cause of technical issues involving various systems, their sub-components, and firmware. This includes batteries and other systems in vehicles, energy products, and robotics.
  • Perform field inspections of various products.
  • Recreate abusive conditions and failure modes to confirm theories about system properties.
  • Develop and validate mitigations to identified issues and coordinate interdisciplinary product improvement implementations.
  • Develop internal standards and processes to continue to improve the safety of our products.What You'll Bring
    • Degree in Engineering, preferably mechanical, electrical, chemical, or equivalent experience.
    • Fundamentals in thermal, mechanical, and electrical engineering.
    • Experience with field investigation.
    • Ability to interact across a variety of groups collaboratively.
    • Practical, hands-on, can-do attitude.
    • Failure analysis experience a plus.
    • Lithium ion / automotive / grid scale energy storage experience a plus.
    • Approximately 25-50% expected travel.Compensation and BenefitsAlong with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire:

      • Employee discounts and perks program.Expected Compensation$84,000 - $168,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits.Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
