Mechanical Design Engineer, Battery Structures DesignThe Structural Design team is comprised of passionate Engineers who love to solve challenging problems and want to create the best electric vehicles in the world. While accelerating the transition to sustainable energy is a challenging opportunity, we surround ourselves with fun and creative teammates to develop technology the world has never seen.The Battery Engineering team is comprised of various teams, including Structures, Pack, Module, Devices, and Electronics Engineering. The unique expertise of our team focuses on the structural design of all vehicles Tesla puts on the road. We design the components that make up the foundation of the battery, enabling the most efficient and safe EVs on the road. While our team focuses heavily on ensuring occupant safety and controlled environments for the battery cells, our responsibility goes far beyond.Mechanical Design Engineers working out of Palo Alto, CA will be focused on improving designs for the cars of today and defining the designs for the vehicles of tomorrow. The role requires strong engineering/physics fundamentals and the tenacity to apply that to hands-on problem solving. A team player mentality is highly valued, as you are the design representative on the ground collaborating with our factory-based colleagues. Tesla moves quickly, so being self-motivated and disciplined is key to being successful in this role.What to Expect

• Blurring the boundaries between Vehicle and Powertrain Engineering organizations
• Seamless integration of the vehicle and battery cells
• Pushing the boundaries on how safe & reliable vehicles can be
• Partnering with our manufacturing engineering teams to develop new processes and materials
• Serve as local design authority for line launches, design changes, trials, deviations/dispositions, and root-cause analysis
• Own basic on-site component and system level testing to support design and specification changes; coordinate large validation testing for changes with global team
• Root-Cause & Corrective Analysis for design issues
• Collaborate directly with Manufacturing, Process, and Quality to solve yield barriers and scrap issues
• Own product improvements (cost, complexity reductions)
• 3D design and GD&T drawings of complex parts and assembliesWhat You'll Bring
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in materials and mechanics
  • Demonstrated ability to actively find problems and solutions to them
  • Detail-oriented personality with solid documentation and reporting skills
  • Strong experience in CAD modeling (experience in CATIA V5/3DX is a plus but not required)
  • An outlook that finds joy in solving problems with creative engineering solutions
  • Prior experience in a relevant engineering field is valued but not required
